In QUALITIES OF COMMON WATER 12 short videos show cold water hitting a hot ceramic hob, a digital rendering of a moment, a tiny record of a natural phenomenon.
Each video is hosted on a different server in a different country and the load and loop time depends on the global infrastructure connecting the host server and the viewer of the work. Also as each of the videos are slightly different lengths they slowly go out of sync with one another creating a complex, ever changing, non-repetitive composition.
Every time the viewer reloads the webpage they will get a slightly different version of the work. The Internet here not only becomes a way of experiencing the piece but also an inherent medium of the work itself. My hope is for this artwork to subtly reveal the global communication structures we have come to rely on.
